Jax Beer Week 2014: Monday, May 26 Event

jax_beer_week_2014Jax Beer Week gets going today with several events you will not want to miss. Check back every day this week for listings of what is happening and where. Also, follow our social media feeds for more up-to-the-minute information. You can access our feeds from www.JaxBeerGuy.com.

Pinglehead Brewing Company/Brewer Pizza
Orange Park seems a long way from the more beer-centric city center and beaches, but that does not mean that there is no craft beer there. On the contrary, Pinglehead Brewing Company, nestled inside of Brewer’s Pizza on Blanding Boulevard has been cranking out awesome brews for several years now – including what may be the best Imperial Red in the country. For craft beer week they have enlisted the help of the rest of the local breweries and will feature a beer from each on their taps. The first beer to be tapped is listed below. Look for the daily special tapping in the listings for the days below.

Engine 15 Brewing Company – Ales for undies “Undie Monday” with Dignity you wear.

M Shack – St. John’s Town Center
Matthew Medure is known throughout the metro Jacksonville area for his fine dining restaurant Matthew’s, but he is also the genius behind M Shack in Neptune Beach and St. John’s Town Center. At M Shack, Medure taps into his gourmet cooking experience and applies it to the humble hamburger. But, given the Medure treatment, burgers at his joint are anything but humble. They are juicy, tasty, and absolutely heavenly.

As a tip-of-the-chef’s-hat to Jax Beer Week, M Shack has teamed with Engine 15 Brewing Company to offer a special price on M Burgers when you purchase a pint of Nut Sack, Russian Imperial, Old Battle Axe, or (904) Weissguy.

The special deal is offered at the Town Center location only from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Taverna
Since their 2009 opening in San Marco, Taverna has been wowing diners with their innovative and tasty dishes. Locally owned and operated, the eatery focuses on fresh, local ingredients and a European-style, seasonal approach to food preparation. The fare at Taverna is heavily influenced by both Italian and Spanish cuisines with favorites like paella and Neapolitan-style pizzas.

Today you can enjoy one of those exquisite pizzas along with a pint of Intuition Ale Works craft beer for just $12.

The Jax Beer Guy has partnered with the UBER car service in Jacksonville. Because of this partnership, you can receive a $20 credit for your first ride by simply using the promo code “JaxBeerGuy” when you register for UBER on your smartphone.

The Jax Beer Guy March Madness Beer Tournament begins! Cast your vote!

marchmadnessThe nominations are in and we got a lot of them. There were a total of 94 beers nominated for the tournament that broke at as follows:

  • Eastern Division – 44
  • Middle Division – 12

Community First Saturdays begin Oct. 6 with appearance by Jax Beer Guy

Join the Springfield Brew Crew and The Jax Beer guy at the inaugural Community First Saturday Downtown October 6. Join us for some traditional Oktoberfest games and contests like pretzel tossing, stein racing, and yodeling. There will also be a best lederhosen and dirndl contest. So dress the part of a German and get on downtown for some German-style fun!

The event’s press release reads:

Community First Saturday is a new monthly project to activate our beautiful River and Riverwalk, tie into events and activities Downtown, create family and fitness content that compels our community to gather on the St. Johns River, and simply enjoy our sometimes underrated quality of life in Jacksonville.

There are two central locations of Community First Saturdays.

One is on the Riverwalk behind the Times Union Center (between the two green gazebos at the south ends of Hogan and Pearl Sts). This space, dubbed Community West, will feature family friendly interactive activities, fitness classes, and excursion ideas and tours of our vibrant Downtown. Linking the biggest weekly outdoor cultural event in Florida (Riverside Arts Market) with the Riverwalk and Downtown is a priority of CFS so you’ll see many linkages both physical and programmatic. There is too much to mention in this space but there will be things like free Wi-Fi, bike valet, and we’ve got the JTA Skyway running! Kids can now enjoy our special Community First Saturday Skyway service! It’s free and connects to awesome Downtown destinations like Friendship Fountain, MOSH, MOCA Jax, and our excellent Downtown library!

The other Community First Saturdays location is Community East, which will be in the old courthouse parking lot. This space will be where we feature Food vendors/Trucks, a bar, DJs, and café tables and chairs and umbrellas on the Riverwalk. Community East is a natural cap to the east end of the Riverwalk, and will be more about lounging, socializing, and gathering and making/meeting friends.

Community First Saturdays is expected to be robust with good crowds each month that will grow as the event becomes more mature. Please join the event’s Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/communityfirstsaturdays and follow us at www.twitter.com/community1stsat.

Activities and schedules will be announced on the group’s  blog www.communityfirstsaturdays.com.

Be sure to check out the ALL NEW Jax Beer Guy website for beer news, educational and recreational activities, photos, and schwag. www.jaxbeerguy.com.
