Beer It Forward this American Craft Beer Week

Monday, May 15 marks the beginning of American Craft Beer Week 2017. The week celebrates the diversity of the American craft beer scene and strives to educate the uninitiated to the many joys of craft beer. In addition, this year the Brewers Association
— the trade organization dedicated to supporting craft beer brewers — have launched a #BeerItForward campaign.

Simply put, Beer It Forward is a way to do something extra with beer. Its a means to make someone’s day, say thank you for a job well done or just an anonymous gesture that shares the craft beer love with someone else. Beering It Forward could be something as simple as buying a pint for a stranger while at a taproom, bringing a six-pack of special brews to a friend or including extra beer in a trade. Anything that “pays it forward.”

When someone Beers It Forward to you, document their generosity on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and tag it with #BeerItForward.

Putt N’ Crawl returns for 13th year at Jacksonville Beach

Since 2004 Putt N’ Crawl has been a Jacksonville Beach tradition. The premise is simple, dress in your most outrageous costume and crawl from bar to bar where mini golf holes are set up. Putt at each hole and try to beat your friends’ scores. Get a hole-in-one and win a prize. Its that easy.

In addition, prizes will be awarded for best costume — both individual and group.

But, the day is really about getting out to Jacksonville Beach with your friends, enjoying great drinks specials and having fun. Checking out the parade of costumes is a lot of fun, too. This year 11 Jacksonville Beach bars and restaurants are opening their doors to the event.

At the end of the day, an after party will be held at Lynch’s with presentation of costume prizes and drink specials.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 6. Sign-ins begin at 1:00 p.m. at Lynch’s Irish Pub, Zeta Brewing Company or Ocean Grille. Ticket holders will receive a wristband that provides access to the course, drink discounts and prizes. Participants must be 21 years old or older to take part in the event and I.D.s will be checked upon check in.

Jax Beer Guy to launch Facebook Live broadcasts

There is a lot going on in the local and state beer world over the next few months. And you can expect coverage of several right here on The Jax Beer Guy blog. Events I plan on attending include:

Feb. 4 – Underdark Day at Intuition Ale Works
Feb. 19 – SweetWater Brewing Company’s 20th Anniversary
Feb. 24 – Barley Mow Brewing Company and Whole Foods Jacksonville beer dinner
Feb. 25 – Riverside Craft Beer Fest presented by the Riverside Rotary Club
March 11 – Cigar City Brewing Hunahpu’s Day

This year I plan to use Facebook Live to bring live broadcasts from the events. Be sure to Like my Folio Weekly Pint Sized Facebook page to be sure to catch them. These broadcasts will include insider views of the events along with interviews of attendees and brewers.

Let me know what you want to see and hear about as I talk to organizers, participants and guests.

But, if you miss the live broadcast, don’t worry. You will still be able to view the videos after I post them to my YouTube page and here on the blog.
