Jax Beer Week Day Three: Movies, Food, and Beer

Another great lineup of events is in store for today to celebrate Jacksonville Craft Beer Week. Tonight you can enjoy two food pairing events and a special movie screening and panel discussion. If you have not been out to any of the events yet this week, you have already missed out on some truly awesome events. But, fear not, there are plenty more to come not least of which the big Downtown Pub Crawl presented by the Springfield Brew Crew and sponsored by Intuition Ale Works. The week culminates Saturday with the Grand Tasting presented by Intuition and being held at Mellow Mushroom in Tinseltown. Tickets for both events are still available so hurry before they are sold out.

Today’s Jax Beer Week Events:

Sun Ray Theater

The impressive and newly restored Sun Ray Cinema (formerly the Five Points Cinema) will throwing the doors open this evening for a truly fun and unique event to bolster the Jax Beer Week fun: a screening of Anat Baron’s “Beer Wars.” This 2001 documentary focuses on the difficulties of craft beer brewers who find themselves butting heads with the big boys on the block. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says of the movie, “For those who are keeping the American dream alive, this spirited documentary raises a toast.”

Following the movie a question and answer period will take place with Ben Davis, brewer and owner of Intuition Ale Works and Eric Lumen, brewer and owner of Green Room Brewing.

In addition, the theater will be serving only local brews on tap for the showing with a fine selection from Green Room, Intuition, and Bold City.

The movie starts at 5:00 pm.

Engine 15

Engine 15 has been getting all things beer right for a while now, so Jax Beer Week will definitely be no different. Tonight the folks out at the Beach Blvd. beer haven will be pairing their own Oak-Aged Simcoe IPA with steam burgers and coconut rice. If you find yourself out at the beach tonight, be sure to swing by and say hello to Luch and the gang.

Royal Palms Village Wine and Tapas Restaurant

Highland Brewing Company like to do things up right when they host a beer dinner and their teaming up with Royal Palms Village Wine and Tapas Restaurant is indicative of their norm. Tonight you can partake of a stunning menu paired with equally awesome Highland brews.

The menu consists of:

Berenjenas Espaonolas
Roasted eggplant pinwheel with manchego cheese, topped with pisto.
Served with St. Theresa’s Pale Ale

Almejas Borrachas
Drunken clams with Lil Hump Spring Ale broth, garlic, and saffron.
Served with Lil Hump Spring Ale

Pealla
Chorizo, shrimp, chicken, mussels, calamari, and artichoke hearts all served in Spanish style rice.
Served with Kashmir IPA

Gaelic Pork
Smoked pork shoulder marinated in Gaelic Ale and fresh line, with cilantro lime mustard sauce.
Served with Gaelic Ale

Oatmeal Porter Burger
Veal slider with serrano ham, manchego cheese on an Oatmeal Porter bun.
Served with Oatmeal Porter

Marcona Almond Turtle with Mocha Stout Caramel
Served with Black Mocha Stout
